・The Wanderer, along with his or her friends, go on a quest to defeat several Great Evils that represent the powers of hell. ・Aidan, the Dark Wanderer, fully succumbs to Diablo's influence and power. In an attempt to contain Diablo, Prince Aidan plunges the soulstone into his own head, ultimately becoming the Dark Wanderer. ・The prince defeats Diablo, although Albrecht dies. ・Prince Aidan returns to Tristram, and seeing what has become of the village, ventures beneath the cathedral to rescue Albrecht with his allies. ・Archbishop Lazarus kidnaps King Leoric's son, Prince Albrecht, to use his body as a vessel for Diablo. ・Over time, Diablo strips King Leoric of his sanity, ultimately resulting in the King descending into madness.
Attempts by Diablo to possess King Leoric fail. ・Archbishop Lazarus, corrupted by the Prime Evils, frees Diablo beneath the cathedral at Tristram. ・King Leoric declares himself as king of Khanduras.
